Designer Biography

Thanks for taking a few moments to get to know me!  My name is Donna Lauritzen.  I'm a 41 year old work at home mom to my four year old son, who is the joy of my life.  I've been fortunate enough to stay home with him his entire life, and plan to be here for him for many years to come.

My husband, Chris, and I have been married for eight years.  Chris is very encouraging, and is my "biggest fan;" always encouraging me to pursue my dreams, and raving about my work.

My background is quite varied:  I have a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, and worked for many years as a therapist/crisis worker.  I've always had a fondness for all things creative, and have enjoyed dabbling in many "arts and crafts" projects over the years.   Most recently, I have found creative outlet in scrapbooking.  After my son was born, like many new moms, I turned to scrapbooking, especially digital scrapbooking.  I spent time learning to manipulate images in Photoshop, to create my own digital scrapbook elements.  For a while, I ran a successful online digital scrapbooking store, selling both my own designs and those of other scrapbook designers.  I gave up the business end of digital scrapbooking, however, when it began to demand more time than I was able to devote to it.

Last year, after some life-changing events (including my 40th birthday), I decided to take a path which some might have thought was a bit "out of character" for me.  I returned to school, on a part-time basis, taking classes in digital art and web design. 

Earlier this winter, I was approached by faculty at Moraine Valley Community College about the possibility of teaching a design class.  Beginning in January, 2008, I will join the faculty of Moraine Valley Community College as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Information Management Services (IMS).  I am looking forward to beginning this very new chapter in my professional life, and especially to sharing my knowledge of design with others.
